Vision

Combine mind, body, and spirituality for optimal wellness

EAT Healthy + Sleep Well

Eating habits account for 80% of your body’s health so keep your diet in check. A balanced wholesome diet is essential for nourishment. Good restful sleep is vital in allowing your body and mind to recover, allowing you to stay energetic and feeling strong.

Adopt an Active Lifestyle

In addition to our diet, regular physical activity is important for the mind + body to enjoy a good quality of life. A simple 3o minute brisk walk, five days a week can reduce heart disease, diabetes, depression, and dementia among other diseases.

Stress and Spirituality

We all encounter stress in various forms. How we cope with it determines how well we can work through our challenges. Mindfulness, self-reflection, dua, and prayer are key components for a productive and happy life, Insha-Allah.

Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed has been practicing for over ten years in family medicine and anesthesia (FPA). He is staff physician in the Department of Anesthesia in a Greater Toronto Area hospital. He is the lead physician for his local area Family Medicine Health Group. He practiced for over ten years in emergency medicine and chronic pain. He is an Assistant Professor with Queen’s University teaching medical trainees in the community setting since 2015. He continues to be involved with the FPA Fellowship Program at Michael Garron Hospital, University of Toronto. Over the years Dr. Ahmed has had the privilege to teach and learn from paramedic and respiratory therapy students, nurse practitioners, and medical students and residents from various medical schools. Dr. Ahmed is a certified Pain Physician and a diplomate of the Canadian Academy of Pain Management (CAPM). He has educated community doctors on safe and balanced approaches to treating pain and mental illness. He has a passion for teaching, supporting community projects, and promoting wellness.

Dr. Ahmed graduated from the University of Toronto School of Medicine, followed by completing his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Western Ontario. He then returned back to Toronto for his Anesthesia training, which included community and some thoracic anesthesia at Michael Garron Hospital, high risk obstetrical anesthesia at Mount Sinai Hospital, and Pediatric anesthesia at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. During his medical school he did most of his clinical training at Sunnybrook Hospital, one of the busiest academic hospitals in Toronto and a regional trauma centre. Before medical school, Dr. Ahmed completed his undergraduate degree in Biology with a research focus at the Ottawa Hospital. He was awarded the Silver Medal from the Faculty of Science. He spent the next year in research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School.  More recently he has completed courses with MaRS, MIT and Cornell University with the intention to apply what he has learned to give back to the community with innovative health initiatives. He is a foodie at heart, and enjoys playing soccer and basketball. His favourite sports team is the Ottawa Senators.

I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work in different areas of clinical practice. After completing my medical training, I joined a hospital system just outside of Toronto to work in family medicine, in-patient care, emergency medicine, and anesthesia. I came to appreciate the complexities of emergency care, surgical cases, and chronic disease. I undertook additional training in chronic pain to manage high-risk patients suffering from intractable pain with co-existing mental illness. All these experiences highlighted to me the importance of safeguarding our health, and fighting disease by making simple yet helpful changes in our daily lives that are based on science and evidence. This realization is what drove me to start a health blog and write an e-book in 2012, and I have been building on that since. I hope you find this website useful for a healthier and happier you, Insha-Allah!
